City & Guilds is the leading awarding body for this qualification.

Target Group:

This qualification is appropriate for you if you hold managerial responsibility within the care sector and children and young People’s Services for example, a manager, deputy or assistant or advanced practitioners or Proprietor.

You will need to ensure that you are competent in the area you wish to manage and you meet the requirements of the awarding body. In order for you to enrol on the course, you must have a job role as a Manager or Deputies, Advanced practitioners in services such as homes for older people, people with learning disabilities, people with mental health problem and domiciliary / nursing care.

You will choose 1 of the following 6 pathways:

  • Children and Young People's Residential Management
  • Children and Young People's Management
  • Children and Young People's Advanced Practice
  • Adults' Residential Management
  • Adults' Management
  • Adults' Advanced Practice

Course Aim:

To provide you with the skills and knowledge to enable you to carry out your managerial roles and responsibilities up to the minimum national Standard.

Duration:

Leadership and Management of Care Services – There are no fixed period for completion, however depending on experience most participants complete within 12 months. The course consists of 1 full day Induction and 4 additional Workplace assessments by Crownlinks Assessor at a time convenient to you. Learner has additional option of attending various scheduled workshop as may be arranged from time to time by the Centre in our training room at Barking. Crownlinks Assessor will come to your workplace to observe you for a few hours on a single day for about three or four times.  Tutorial and feedback will be delivered on a one-to-one or group basis. You will also enjoy unlimited access to learning resources from Crownlinks Int. Virtual Learning Environments. Unlimited e-mail and telephone support throughout the duration of your award.

Please Note: Additional charges will be incurred if you exceed your Maximum of 12 Months target plan.

Course Content:

Each unit within the Diploma has a credit rating and to achieve the QCF Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care and Children and Young People learners must complete knowledge and competence units equalling an overall 80 credits. Learners must achieve 64 credits from the mandatory units and a further 12 credits from the 1st optional units selections and a remaining 4 credits from the 2nd optional unit selection.

All the pathways share 5 core units:

  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people's settings
  • Working in partnership in health and social care, and children and young people's settings.

For each pathway, you will also need to complete a certain number of optional units. Examples of available units include:

  • Lead person-centred practice
  • Support individuals at the end of life
  • Manage finance in a health and social care or children and young people's setting
  • Explore models of disability
  • Understand the needs of children who are vulnerable and experiencing poverty and disadvantage
    Identify and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance misusers.

Assessment takes place through evaluation of work-based performance, presenting evidence, witness testimony and questioning. A portfolio of evidence is produced which demonstrates that the candidate can perform to the level described. Participants will all have a vocationally competent assessor who will help assemble the portfolio and prepare for assessment. In addition, candidates will have access to email and telephone support throughout their programme together with resources as required.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion you will be awarded a Leadership & Management in Care Services Award certified through City & Guilds. All successful Leadership & Management in Care Services Award certifications is subject to an external verification process conducted by the awarding body.

The activities you are likely to be involved in:

Demonstrating skills, knowledge and ability comparable to the level of competence required for the award. Identifying what you need to do to be fully competent.

Course Fees:

Leadership & Management in Care Services Award normally costs £2,500 excluding VAT. However, for a limited period, the award places are currently available at a negotiable price. Crownlinks operate an easy payment plan to help spread the cost of the Leadership and Management Award in care programme for you. An initial administration fee of £250 and a deposit of £500 totalling £750 excluding VAT are made, followed by 6 monthly instalments of £291.67 excluding VAT if applicable.

Please note: It is a requirement of the course is that you are observed at your workplace carrying out your managerial role and responsibility. If this is 25 miles or more from our training centre, an additional cost will be charged.

However, the course price drops to £2,250 excluding VAT if you decide to pay in full, saving you £250!

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES:

Ø To enable participants to gain one of four nationally recognised assessor qualifications

Ø To enable participants to develop appropriate knowledge of assessment and verification practices

Ø To enable participants to develop their assessment skills

COURSE OVERVIEW:

All four qualifications start with a full day of high quality training followed by regular individual support.

The Award in Understanding Assessments is achieved through the completion of assignments and is easily achievable in five weeks.

The other three awards continue with a second training day roughly six weeks after the first day with further support from your assessor including an observation session and a final assessment session.

The interactive workshops and online resources will teach you about best practice assessment. Individual support from your assessor is via online virtual learning environment, phone, email, post and one-to-one meetings.

All participants are given pre-course reading material and a pre-prepared easy to follow portfolio with clear action plans, guidelines and handouts. You will also find these recourses in your learning area

For the three competence based awards participants will need to work with two NVQ and/or VRQ learners, whom they will support and assess; and gather evidence from this process to prove competence as an assessor. Participants will need to be attached to an approved centre for the delivery of NVQs and/or VRQs, attend meetings at the centre and take part in centre quality assurance activities.

For Assessors who may be part-way through their qualification with another organisation we can support you to complete in a time scale of your choosing at a much reduced fee based around your progress to date and your support needs.
